The Legacy Campus Master Planning Process

Wheat Ridge, CO - The redevelopment of this 100-acre parcel in the heart of Wheat Ridge offers a tremendous opportunity for the City to build a bright future for the benefit of its residents and neighbors, while maintaining respect for the history and legacy of Lutheran's role in the community.

SCL Health has joined with the City to undertake a master planning process to ensure a well-defined, coordinated redevelopment strategy that will help establish a long-range vision for the site.

The existing SCL Health Lutheran Medical Center campus is currently zoned for medical use only. In order to develop a broader plan for the property, the City of Wheat Ridge, in partnership with SCL Health, has secured MIG Consulting to help guide the master planning process. MIG was founded in 1982 and is focused on inclusive and participatory planning that results in better policies, projects, and future programs.

The 8-month process began in March, and has relied on extensive input from community leaders, residents and businesses through tours and virtual and in-person meetings, as well as online surveys and activities.

The fourth and final public meeting is scheduled for Sept. 22, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, to review final recommendations. In October, the Planning Commission and City Council will incorporate the final master plan into the City’s Comprehensive Plan.

It is the desire of SCL Health that the redevelopment of the Lutheran Medical Center legacy campus will improve the quality of life in the City of Wheat Ridge by providing many new opportunities guided by the input of many stakeholders, including the Wheat Ridge community. SCL Health, however, will not have the final say about future use of the legacy campus property.

Project updates and community engagement opportunities are listed on the City's social media platforms, in the City's monthly Mayor's Matters e-newsletter, and provided on the City's website. The City also has added an interactive project site to What's Up Wheat Ridge.
