                        <title>Intermountain Saint Joseph Hospital Welcomes New Anesthesiology Partner in Denver</title>

                        <guid>https://news.intermountainhealth.org/intermountain-health-saint-joseph-hospital-welcomes-new-anesthesiology-partner/</guid><pp:caseid>719937</pp:caseid><description><![CDATA[<img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/2804/45316f8d-15db-48e2-bfb3-610a4ad13527/1920_surgery_photo.jpg?10000"><p>A new anesthesia group is now providing anesthesia care for patients at Intermountain Health Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver.&nbsp;</p><p>Sound Anesthesia began caring for patients at Intermountain Health Saint Joseph Hospital on Aug. 26.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>Sound Anesthesia is part of the national multi-specialty physician group Sound Physicians, which based in Nashville, Tennessee – and includes medical practice leaders, anesthesiologists, and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) who will work full time with surgeons and caregivers at Intermountain Saint Joseph Hospital.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>Anesthesiologists and CRNAs are trained clinicians who manage the care of patients during medical or surgical procedures through drug administration that reduces or eliminates pain.                         <title>Intermountain St. George Regional Hospital Adds Robotic Assisted Technology as Another Option for Total Knee Replacement Surgeries</title>

                        <guid>https://news.intermountainhealth.org/intermountain-health-st-george-regional-hospital-introduces-robotic-assisted-technology-as-another-option-for-total-knee-replacement-surgeries/</guid><pp:caseid>707748</pp:caseid><description><![CDATA[<img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/2804/3517e744-87e6-42e8-a645-9639c109de66/1920_velys.png?10000"><p style="margin-left:0in;"><span>Intermountain Health is innovating orthopedic surgery in Southern Utah, adding robotic assisted knee replacement surgeries, where computer data is tailored to each patient’s anatomy in preparation for the surgery.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0in;"><span>This cutting-edge robotic assisted technology gives surgeons and patients another option for orthopedic surgeries.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0in;"><span>Intermountain Health's Southwest Orthopedics/Sports Medicine Clinic in St. George, Utah, is the first in the region to offer VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Surgery for total knee replacements.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0in;"><span>This new advanced surgery, introduced in St. George in November 2024, enables a more personalized, precise, and efficient knee replacement experience.</span></p><p><span>Orthopedic surgeons Robert Jamieson, MD, and Darin K. Allred, MD, were the first to use it complete more than 500 total replacements a year and more than 250 robotic assisted knee replacements to date.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0in;"><span>“The key to this technology is it enhances the preparation and accuracy while also better customizing the care for each patient,” said Dr. Jamieson. "It allows us to really know the end from the beginning."</span></p><p style="margin-left:0in;"><span>St. George resident Jay Sessions had the VELYS Robotic-Assisted surgery for his knee procedure in January 2025, and called the experience "pure joy".</span></p><p style="margin-left:0in;"><span>Before the surgery, Sessions said his mobility was limited to the point where he would fall over, but since his procedure, he's felt no pain.</span><br><br><span>“Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty offers several significant benefits for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery," said Dr. Allred. “This advanced technology allows for enhanced precision during the procedure, enabling surgeons to plan and execute the operation with greater accuracy.”</span></p><p style="margin-left:0in;"><span>The robot can identify minute differences in the patient’s knee and then assist the surgeons in aligning the implants more precisely to a patient’s unique anatomy, which can improve joint function and increase the longevity of the implant.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0in;"><span>“Additionally, robotic assistance can result in smaller incisions, reduced soft tissue damage, and less post-operative pain,” said Dr. Allred. “These advantages often lead to quicker recovery times, shorter hospital stays, and better overall outcomes for patients.”</span></p><p style="margin-left:0in;"><span>While the technology is a welcome addition to the orthopedic program, there are still surgeries being done with traditional means and those are discussed on a case by case scenario between patients and physicians.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0in;"><span>Learn more about orthopedic needs and find providers at </span><a href="https://intermountainhealthcare.org/"><span>intermountainhealth.org</span></a><span>.&nbsp;</span></p>]]></description><category><![CDATA[Intermountain Health,Saint George,St. George Regional Hospital,Robotic surgery,Surgery,knee surgery]]></category>

                        <title>Intermountain Health Holy Rosary Hospital Adds Surgical Robot</title>

                        <guid>https://news.intermountainhealth.org/intermountain-health-holy-rosary-hospital-adds-surgical-robot-to-assist-with-surgeries/</guid><pp:caseid>652860</pp:caseid><description><![CDATA[<img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/2804/d105a023-2e02-43c1-8161-6a42cbb827e9/1920_img-5479.jpg?10000"><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:left;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">Intermountain Health Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City is now using a state-of-the-art surgical robot to assist with certain procedures and improve recovery times for patients.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:left;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">The Da Vinci XI robotic-assisted surgical system helps doctors with certain procedures by using only small incisions while still being able to make precise movements in the body.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:left;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">During these procedures, a specially-trained surgeon controls the movement of camera-equipped robotic equipment by using a console placed next to the operating table instead of physically performing the surgery with their hands. &nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:left;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">“From a patient perspective it results in less pain from surgery and allows for more precise work,” said Imudia Ehanire, MD, surgeon at Intermountain Health Holy Rosary Hospital. &nbsp;“From the surgeon perspective it improves ergonomics of performing surgery, improves visualization and allows us do more precise work. Robotic surgery has been around for over a decade, and for these and many other reasons it is becoming more commonplace in hospitals across America.”&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:left;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">The surgical robot can be used to assist with surgeries for gallbladder, appendix removal, hernia repair, and many others. Since May 9, six of these procedures have taken place with more scheduled in the future.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:left;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">Danikka Harrell of Miles City, &nbsp;MT, &nbsp;was the first to undergo a surgery using the new robot. She’s a nurse at the Verterans Adminsitration Hospital and had a hernia repaired, which was causing serious issues.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:left;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">“Working as a nurse there is a lot of bending and lifting and to be honest I don’t remember the last time I was able to go work comfortably,” said Harrell. “I was just so excited to know I had this kind of technology available to me and my recovery went better than I expected.”&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:left;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">Harrell said one of the things she’s most excited about is getting back to playing volleyball pain free.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:left;"><span style="background-color:rgb(255,255,255);"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">For patients, the benefits of robotic-assisted surgery include fewer complications, reduced blood loss, less pain, and shorter hospital stays. Because the robotic technology allows the surgeon to operate less invasively, patients heal faster, and less noticeable scarring.&nbsp;</span></span><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:left;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">In the future, physicians will use the surgical robot for additional procedures including gynecology.                         <guid>https://news.intermountainhealth.org/intermountain-health-es-el-primero-en-el-pais-en-utilizar-tecnologia-3d-para-mejorar-el-tratamiento-de-pacientes-sometidos-a-cirugia-oncologica-compleja/</guid><pp:caseid>652834</pp:caseid><pp:subtitle>Intermountain Health es el primero en el país en utilizar tecnología 3D para mejorar el tratamiento de pacientes sometidos a cirugía oncológica compleja</pp:subtitle><description><![CDATA[<img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/2804/fdfe4453-7f8c-4925-8da9-4ee2a3aefb48/1920_3dcancer2.png?10000"><p><span>Intermountain Health es el primer sistema de salud de la nación en usar una nueva e innovadora herramienta que emplea un modelo de computadora 3D para guiar a los cirujanos durante una cirugía robótica de cáncer de recto, lo que hace que el procedimiento sea más eficaz y preciso para los pacientes de cáncer.</span></p><p><span>La nueva tecnología, llamada Iris, convierte las imágenes prequirúrgicas de resonancia magnética (MRI, por sus siglas en inglés) en un modelo 3D que muestra la anatomía y la ubicación del tumor en relación con otros órganos y estructuras, para aumentar la precisión y la eficacia del procedimiento quirúrgico.</span></p><p><span>El Dr. Tae Kim, un cirujano colorrectal en el Intermountain LDS Hospital en Salt Lake City, fue el primer médico en usar la tecnología Iris para una cirugía robótica de recto.</span></p><p><span>“El beneficio de esta tecnología es que es como tener un mapa 3D antes de entrar a un laberinto”, dijo el Dr. Kim. “Sabrá en qué partes y cuándo puede ser rápido y eficiente, así como en qué partes y cuándo deberá ir despacio y de forma deliberada para asegurarse de extraer el cáncer por completo”.</span></p><p><span>Por el momento, Intermountain Health es uno de los dos sistemas de salud de la nación (y el único en Utah) aprobado para usar esta nueva tecnología.</span></p><p><span>Para los pacientes de cáncer, el modelo 3D los ayuda a entender mejor la complejidad de la anatomía y el procedimiento quirúrgico. El Dr. Kim usa en la actualidad el modelo para las visitas prequirúrgicas con sus pacientes, con el fin de explicarles el procedimiento.</span></p><p><span>“Es una herramienta muy poderosa para educar a los pacientes y transmitirles la tranquilidad de que tenemos un plan muy claro”, dijo el Dr. Kim.</span></p><p><span>Uno de los pacientes del Dr. Kim que recibió los beneficios de la tecnología fue Tom Evans, un profesor de 50&nbsp;años de Riverton, Utah.</span></p><p><span>A Evans le diagnosticaron cáncer de colon en estadio tres en 2022 y en la actualidad está enfrentando una recurrencia del cáncer. Cuando le dijeron que necesitaba una cirugía para extirpar el tumor, ya se había sometido a una sesión de quimioterapia y de radiación.</span></p><p><span>La nueva tecnología 3D le permitió al Dr. Kim tener un panorama de lo que encontraría en la cirugía del 14 de marzo de 2024 en el Intermountain LDS Hospital y extirpar el tumor con extrema precisión.</span></p><p><span>Evans dijo que estaba emocionado cuando el Dr. Kim le dijo: “Removimos todo el cáncer”.</span></p><p><span>La cirugía duró cinco horas e involucró el uso de la robótica, lo que requirió que el Dr. Kim esté sentado en una consola de computadora para manipular los brazos robóticos y ver las imágenes 3D.</span></p><p><span>“Tom, ¿te importa si me pongo un poco ñoño por un momento?”, El Dr. Kim luego de la cirugía.</span></p><p><span>Luego procedió a mostrarle cómo el cáncer había llegado muy cerca de la vejiga y cómo la tecnología le dio la confianza y la seguridad necesarias para evitar dañarla.</span></p><p><span>“Fue excepcional”, dijo luego Evans.</span></p><p><span>En su momento, Evans no sabía que estaba haciendo historia.</span></p><p><span>“Alrededor de un mes después del procedimiento, el Dr. Kim me dijo que fui la primera persona en el mundo en recibir esta tecnología revolucionaria”, dijo Evans. “Me tomó por sorpresa, sentí humildad y fascinación por haber tenido los beneficios de este procedimiento, que hizo una gran diferencia”.</span></p><p><span>Con el uso de la robótica, el tiempo de recuperación es menor, por lo que Evans pudo volver a su casa dos días después y está ansioso por volver a ver a sus alumnos y enseñar.</span></p><p><span>Evans también anhela salir a caminar y hacer excursiones con sus siete hijos, que tienen edades entre los 6 y los 25&nbsp;años.</span></p><p><span>Dijo que se siente afortunado y bendecido por tener esta tecnología disponible en el Intermountain LDS Hospital, la cual se aprobó tan sólo tres días antes de su cirugía.</span></p><p><span>“Estoy muy agradecido y estoy seguro de que la persona n.°&nbsp;500 también estará agradecida de tener una mejor calidad de vida”, dijo Evans.</span></p><p><span>Evans alienta a las personas a hacerse pruebas de cáncer de colon, el cual suele ser difícil de detectar y se considera un asesino silencioso.</span></p><p><span>“Asegúrese de hacerse las revisiones, consulte a su médico y realícese las colonoscopías”, aconsejó Evans.</span></p><p style="text-align:center;"><span>###</span></p><p><strong>NOTA PARA LOS MEDIOS:</strong> Imágenes y videos disponibles a pedido.</p>]]></description><category><![CDATA[Spanish News Releases,Innovation,Surgery,3D model]]></category>
