Intermountain Health and the Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games, an outreach department of Southern Utah University, today announced a new partnership that will position Intermountain as the Official Health Partner and Medical Provider of the Games, strengthening support for athletes while advancing health, wellness, and community impact across Southern Utah.

As part of the partnership, Intermountain will serve in a lead health role for the Games and provide on-site athletic training and sports medicine support to help keep athletes safe, supported, and performing at their best throughout the event.

CEDAR CITY – Intermountain Health and Southern Utah University (SUU) athletics have joined forces in a new collaboration that will provide SUU athletes with access to top Intermountain sports medicine and orthopedic experts in the region and enhance community health.

This collaboration will create opportunities for both organizations to expand and elevate community wellness initiatives, benefiting the physical and mental well-being of athletes and residents throughout Iron County.

Through this collaboration, SUU athletics and Intermountain Health will work together to enhance health and wellness efforts, particularly for families and children, by developing innovative initiatives that promote physical fitness, injury prevention, and mental well-being.

Intermountain Park City Hospital celebra la apertura del nuevo Centro de medicina deportiva y rendimiento. El remodelado centro cuenta con nuevos equipos de última generación que incluyen captura de movimiento 3D, cintas para correr de alta velocidad y un riel aéreo para neurorrehabilitación.

Intermountain Park City Hospital is celebrating the opening of the new sports medicine and performance center. The remodeled center has new state-of-the-art equipment including 3D motion capture, high speed treadmills, and a neuro rehabilitation ceiling track.

The wide range of programs now being offered are meant to help everyone with their movement and fitness – from Olympic athletes trying to gain an advantage to everyday athletes and people recovering from serious injuries.

“By having all of these services under one roof we can ensure that if someone is looking to improve their health and movement then we have someone who can help them achieve their goals,” said Marlene Morgan, a physical therapist and manager of sports medicine and performance at Intermountain Park City Hospital. “We have very active people in our community, and this helps ensure they can keep doing what they love.

In addition to physical therapy, sports performance and sports medicine, the new center also offers comprehensive lifestyle medicine and wellness services to better meet the needs of the community.

This includes services such as Integrative Medicine that combines conventional and alternative treatment plans, and Concierge Health, which offers access to expanded and specialized primary care services that focus on individualized health and wellness.

The new center also offers other health services including nutrition services, acupuncture, and massage.

To make things easier for families, the Intermountain Butte Flats Clinic is offering sports physicals to students for $35.

Sports physicals are normally covered by insurance, but the clinic is offering sports physicals for a flat fee of $35 to keep the service affordable for everyone, even those without health insurance.

Intermountain Butte Flats Clinic caregivers are reminding parents and students to schedule their appointments now because they often see a last-minute spike in requests, and there may not be availability to get in before the upcoming sports seasons start.

“Even though kids are normally healthy without major issues, an annual sports physical is vital to make sure there aren’t underlying health problems,” said Micaul Mcclafferty, PA-C, a physician assistant at the Intermountain Butte Flats Clinic. “The annual appointment is a great time to answer any questions for athletes or their parents about how to stay healthy during the season and avoid injuries.”

The Montana High School Association requires a physical for all student athletes once a year in order to take part in organized sports.

Intermountain Park City Hospital is hosting a three-part free speaker series to provide aspiring female athletes (ages 12-18) and their parents with the latest information and tools to help them thrive in all types of sports and athletics.

 All three events are free and feature female providers from Intermountain Park City Hospital’s sports performance center.

 “The speaker series aims to help young female athletes understand their unique anatomy and physiology, and how that applies so they can tailor their training, recovery and nutrition; increase their strength, optimize their sports performance, and prevent common injuries,” said Carrie Jaworski, MD, an Intermountain Health sports performance physician, who is leading the series.

 “By providing education early in a female athlete’s life, we can help set them up for long term success and continued love of sport and physical activity,” she added.

 The first speaker in the series starts on Tues. April 30 at 6 pm with Dr. Jaworski, who will speak about “Staying Balanced as a Young Female Athlete – Optimizing Performance While Avoiding Pitfalls.”

 The second class is Tues. May 14 at 6 pm and will feature sports dietitian Alexandra Krause, RD, CD, who will speak on “Using Food as Fuel, Considerations for the Young Female Athlete.”

 The final class, on Tues. June 11 at 6 pm, features Intermountain certified athletic trainer Robyn Hase, ATC, and Intermountain physical therapy manager, Marlene Hatch, PT, who will talk about “Keeping the Young Female Athlete in the Game: Strength and Conditioning Tips for Injury Prevention and Better Performance.

 All three classes will be held in the Blair Education Center at Intermountain Park City Hospital, 900 Round Valley Drive, in Park City.
