Select Health, wholly owned subsidiary of Intermountain Health, has awarded $150,000 to 30 community organizations through its annual Select Health Awards program. Across Idaho, Nevada and Utah, healthier communities are taking shape in places people visit everyday including community centers, schools, housing programs, food pantries and neighborhood organizations. The work happening in these spaces helps people find stability, build connections and access resources that support their health and well-being.

The 2026 recipients address a wide range of social drivers of health, including food security, housing stability, educational opportunity, preventive health services, support for older adults and individuals with disabilities and programs that aid families and communities. Their work helps individuals and families overcome barriers, improve quality of life and build healthier futures. Each organization received $5,000 to support local efforts that strengthen communities across the Mountain West.

Idaho

· Four County Alliance of Southeast Idaho – Soda Springs Joint School District #150: Through partnerships that support education, workforce development and economic growth, the organization helps strengthen opportunities and quality of life in southeastern Idaho communities.

· Friends of the Children – Eastern Idaho: Provides long-term professional mentoring for youth facing significant obstacles. Its model helps young people build confidence, resilience and skills that support lifelong success.

· Glocal Community Partners: A Christian organization that welcomes refugees through programs that foster belonging, connection and community engagement. The organization helps families build supportive relationships and navigate life in their new communities.

· Idaho Hispanic Foundation: Connects Hispanic and Latino individuals and families with resources, workforce development programs and leadership opportunities. Its work helps create pathways to economic mobility and long-term success.

· Lutheran Community Services Northwest – Safe Families for Children: Supports families during times of crisis by connecting them with caring volunteers and community resources. The program helps strengthen family stability and keep children safe.

· Lincoln County Youth Center – Richfield Food Bank: Addresses food insecurity by providing nutritious food and supportive resources to individuals and families throughout rural Idaho. Its efforts help promote wellness, dignity and greater community stability.

· The Mentoring Network Inc: Builds one-to-one mentoring relationships that help vulnerable children develop confidence, life skills and stronger futures. These relationships provide encouragement, support, and positive role models.

· Toby’s Place: Creates opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities through residential, vocational, educational and social programs. Its services help participants build independence and meaningful community connections.

· Unlimited Potential Athletics: Expands access to adaptive sports and recreation for individuals with disabilities. The organization promotes physical health, emotional well-being and social connection through inclusive athletic opportunities.

· Upper Valley Child Advocacy Center: Provides a child-focused environment where children and families impacted by abuse can access advocacy, support and services that promote health and recovery.

Nevada

· Chefs for Kids: The organization works to address childhood hunger through education and awareness initiatives that help children access nutritious food and develop healthy habits.

· Foundation Assisting Seniors: Provides free durable medical equipment and wellness checks for older adults. Its services help seniors maintain independence, safety and dignity while remaining in their homes.

· Kline Veterans Fund: Supports homeless and at-risk veterans and their families through emergency housing assistance and support services. Its work helps veterans achieve greater stability and access to essential resources.

· Las Vegas PRIDE, Southern Nevada Association of PRIDE, Inc.: Amplifies the voice of the LGBTQIA+ community in Southern Nevada and creates opportunities for connection, visibility and community engagement.

· Lend A Hand Boulder City: Improves quality of life for individuals with disabilities, chronic illness, and age-related challenges by providing services and support that may not otherwise be accessible.

· Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation: Provides educational, social, and life-skills opportunities for children who are visually impaired. Its programs help young people build confidence, independence and skills that support lifelong success.

· People Over Profit Foundation: Supports Nevada’s education community through programs that promote educational achievement and financial stability, helping students and families create pathways to future success.

· R.E.A.C.H. (Research Education Access for Community Health): Works to reduce health disparities by providing culturally responsive education, preventive services and improved access to care for underserved communities.

· Thanksgiving Heroes Las Vegas: Helps families experiencing hardship access meals and community support during the holiday season. Its efforts bring people together while helping address food insecurity.

· The Anchor of Hope: Provides stable housing, case management, workforce readiness, peer support and other services for individuals rebuilding their lives after incarceration, substance use challenges and other barriers to stability.

Utah

· Brigham City Community Center with Senior Services: The organization helps older adults and vulnerable populations remain active, connected and supported. Its programs address social needs that contribute to overall health and quality of life.

· Building Youth Around the World: The nonprofit works to ensure children and families have access to necessities, health and hygiene resources and educational support. Its efforts focus on reducing economic and social barriers in underserved communities.

· Hope Alliance: Hope Alliance expands access to vision care and eyeglasses to underserved communities in Utah and around the world. The organization’s work helps people access services that can help improve learning, employment and daily living.

· National Society for English Language Learners: Provides immersive English instruction for adult immigrants. Participants strengthen communications skills, build community connections and gain tools that support long-term success.

· Pantry to Porch: The organization works to address food insecurity by coordinating volunteers who deliver food directly to individuals and families. The service helps reach people who face barriers to accessing local food resources.

· Playworks Utah: Playworks creates opportunities for children to be active, engaged and connected through safe and meaningful play. Its programs support physical health, social development and positive school experiences.

· Salt Lake Harm Reduction Project: The organization helps reduce stigma, prevent the spread of infectious disease, and connects people with essential health resources. Its work supports healthier outcomes for individuals and communities.

· Tooele Education Foundation: The foundation supports students and educators throughout Tooele County School District. By investing in educational success and well-being, it helps create conditions that support lifelong health and opportunity.

· Uintah Basin Association of Governments Community Services Department: The department provides services that help low-income individuals and families achieve greater stability. Programs include shelter, rental assistance, transitional housing and food assistance.

· Youthlinc: Youthlinc develops leaders through service and humanitarian experiences. Its mission is to create lifelong humanitarians who are committed to strengthening communities at home and abroad.

On October 29, Utah Business and Roseman University announced their annual Healthcare Heroes Awards with two notable recipients: Lisa Nichols, from Intermountain Health, and Dawn Wright, from Select Health.

This annual award celebrates individuals making significant contributions to improving healthcare in Utah. Both Nichols and Wright were honored among five recipients in the Community Outreach category for their involvements to help improve community health through their advocacy and outreach throughout Utah

Nichols has more than 30 years of experience in nonprofit healthcare, where she has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to addressing health disparities and ensuring access for underrepresented communities.

As Vice President of Community Health, Nichols leads the Community Health portfolio, which includes Intermountain’s Community Health Needs Assessments. The work focuses on addressing social determinants of health and health disparities through community-based collaborations and strategic philanthropy.

In addition, Nichols supports Intermountain’s initiatives to serve as an anchor institution, ensuring the organization deploys its assets to address Intermountain’s mission of helping people live the healthiest lives possible through local hiring, local sourcing, impact investing, and sustainability.

“This recognition reflects the dedication and hard work of the Intermountain Health team and the strong collaborations built within our communities,” said Lisa Nichols. “I am grateful for the opportunity to lead initiatives that make a meaningful difference in the lives of so many. Thank you for this honor and for recognizing the importance of our work in creating a healthier, more equitable future."

Throughout her career, Dawn Wright has combined leadership, compassion, and a deep commitment to expanding healthcare access. Her early career began with leading marketing efforts at the Salvation Army in Southern California, where she amplified the organization's mission to support vulnerable populations. Later, as Director of Marketing & Communications for Shriners Children’s Salt Lake City, she continued her advocacy for children with orthopedic conditions.   

Currently, as the Director of Community and Public Relations at Select Health, the nonprofit insurance arm of Intermountain Health, Wright oversees charity giving, community programs, and partnerships that increase healthcare accessibility. In 2023 alone, her leadership helped direct more than $1 million in contributions for initiatives addressing housing, food security, access to care, positively impacting lives across Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, and Utah. 

Under her guidance, Select Health has collaborated with more than 200 community organizations and businesses to promote healthcare initiatives, expanding its programs to new markets. Her efforts have reinforced the importance of community giving as a core value within the healthcare system. 

Wright has also driven key initiatives such as the Select Health Awards, which annually supports ten Utah organizations dedicated to health, and Brain Body Boost, a school-based program promoting healthy behaviors. Additionally, she oversees the Select Health Scholarship Program, providing financial aid and mentorship to Salt Lake Community College students pursuing healthcare careers. 

"Dawn has an exceptional ability to mobilize people and resources to drive meaningful change in communities we serve," said Nate Foco, Select Health chief marketing and strategy officer. "Her leadership has expanded access to care, resources, and support services for countless individuals across the Mountain West. She has elevated our outreach efforts and created lasting relationships that have significantly strengthened our impact in the region.” 

In 2023, Wright produced Select Health’s first-ever Community Impact Report, highlighting the success of her team’s initiatives. She exemplifies how a strong leader can mobilize resources and partnerships to create lasting change in healthcare.

Select Health today announced the grand opening of its Nevada headquarters with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event also celebrated the opening of the Intermountain Health Maule Clinic exclusively for Select Health members located within the same facility.

The new Select Health headquarters serves as a hub for all members to access care, explore health insurance products and services, ask questions face-to-face, and receive immediate assistance. The building also features a dedicated event space for hosting information sessions during health insurance enrollment periods for both Medicare Advantage and commercial insurance plans.

"This new headquarters represents our ongoing commitment to serving the health needs of Nevadans,” said Rob Hitchcock, Select Health president and CEO. “By offering a central location for our members to access services and information, we're making it easier for them to navigate their healthcare journey."

The Intermountain Health Maule Clinic is now open and provides specialized primary care services exclusively for Select Health Medicare members, ensuring Medicare beneficiaries receive high-quality, preventive care. Additionally, the clinic offers traditional primary care services for commercial Select Health members, expanding healthcare options for the community.

“Our team is dedicated to delivering the highest standards of patient-centered care,” said Intermountain Health family medicine physician Catherine Bautista, MD, one of two providers caring for patients at the clinic. “I educate my patients to ensure they have the information they need to help manage their chronic conditions and to prioritize nutrition and lifestyle changes, so they feel empowered to take care of themselves and live the healthiest lives possible."

Intermountain Health family nurse practitioner Johanna Lim also is accepting new patients at the new Maule Clinic. 

“We're focused on prioritizing the diverse healthcare needs of our patients, ensuring they each receive personalized and comprehensive care,” Lim said. “I consider the individuality of each patient when customizing a care plan that emphasizes their comfort while instilling confidence in their journey.”  

Intermountain Health offers patient care at over 65 clinics across southern Nevada, of which more than 30 are award-winning primary care clinics recognized for providing exceptional healthcare for adults 65 and older. With this new headquarters and clinic, Select Health and Intermountain Health demonstrate the continued commitment to improving the healthcare landscape in Nevada. 

As an integrated nonprofit health system, efforts are focused on meeting the needs of members, patients, and the community. This collaborative model is designed to reinvest in the community, improve access to care, and provide a better healthcare experience.

“Our new building and clinic offer a one-stop shop for care, support, and services, making the experience easier for patients and members,” said Jason Worthen, president of the Select Health Desert Region. “This collaboration with Intermountain Health will empower members to advocate for their health, find preventive services, manage chronic conditions, and improve their well-being,” Worthen added.

This combined effort will also address healthcare disparities by prioritizing social determinants of health (SDOH) among members, patients, employees, and the community. Key initiatives include local hiring, data enhancement, and making disparity reduction a clinical best practice.

Select Health® announced today a donation totaling $25,000 distributed among five nonprofit organizations across Colorado. This philanthropic effort aligns with Select Health’s focus on Social Determinants of Health (SDoH), addressing crucial issues such as food insecurity, housing instability, transportation limitations and access to essential healthcare.

Among the recipients of Select Health’s initiative is Mile High United Way, receiving a $5,000 donation. This contribution will support the organization’s 211 service, a confidential and multilingual resource connecting individuals to vital care services, including healthcare and insurance information.

Additionally, the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless will use the donation to further its mission of providing healthcare to underserved and migrant populations throughout the state.

In Grand Junction, Select Health is proud to support Hilltop, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing an array of essential services including domestic violence support, access to job assistance programs, residential care for adults with traumatic brain injuries, and helping individuals and families get access to health care.

Another $5,000 donation is directed toward the Food Bank of the Rockies, the largest hunger relief organization in the Rocky Mountain region. These funds supported its signature annual event, Gather & Sow, ensuring widespread distribution of food resources to communities facing critical needs.

The Seniors Resource Center headquartered in Wheat Ridge received a $5,000 donation from Select Health, to assist older adults in maintaining their independence at home through various support services, including minor home maintenance, deep cleaning, and yard upkeep during the summer months.

For 2024, Select Health launched a comprehensive range of health plans tailored for individuals, families, and Medicare beneficiaries. These plans will offer extensive coverage and accessibility, ensuring individuals and families have access to a wide range of top-tier healthcare services and facilities. Enrollees during this year's health insurance enrollment period will gain access to premier provider networks across Colorado, including Intermountain Health, UCHealth, AdventHealth and Monument Health.

This expansion and support of local organizations reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare solutions while prioritizing the unique needs of Coloradans.

 To help meet the growing need for healthcare services for Medicare beneficiaries, individuals, and families in Colorado, Select Health^® today announced the addition of AdventHealth to its Select Health provider network. This collaboration provides enhanced access to quality healthcare for consumers throughout Colorado. Access to this new provider network is effective January 1, 2024.
