Intermountain Health Park City Hospital celebró la apertura de su nuevo centro oncológico el jueves con un acto de corte de cinta y una visita guiada para el público.

El nuevo Centro Oncológico de Intermountain Health Park City Hospital atenderá hasta 1,500 pacientes al año con espacio ampliado, equipos de alta tecnología y opciones de tratamiento más cerca de casa.

“El cáncer ya es un viaje difícil para los pacientes y sus familias, y brindar atención que salva vidas cerca de casa en Wasatch Back ayudará a aliviar parte de este estrés”, dijo Tawnya Bowles, MD, cirujana oncológica de Intermountain Health y directora médica sénior de Servicios de Oncología para la región de Canyon de Intermountain Health. “Esperamos que este nuevo centro ayude a aliviar la carga para que los pacientes puedan concentrarse en recuperarse”.

Intermountain Park City Hospital celebrated the opening of its new cancer center on Thursday with a ribbon cutting and public tour.

The new Intermountain Health Park City Hospital Cancer Center will serve up to 1,500 patients annually with expanded space, high tech equipment, and treatment options closer to home.

“Cancer is already a difficult journey for patients and their families, and providing lifesaving care close to home in the Wasatch Back will help alleviate some of this stress,” said Tawnya Bowles, MD, an Intermountain Health cancer surgeon and senior medical director for oncology services for Intermountain Health’s Canyon’s Region. “We hope this new center helps ease the burden so patients can focus on getting well.”

The new Intermountain cancer center is 10,800-square feet and includes 18 infusion bays, a significant increase from the four bays which have served patients for the past several years. There will also be dedicated rooms for medical oncology appointments, which allow for telehealth visits with Intermountain cancer experts outside of the Wasatch Back.

One of the biggest additions is an advanced linear accelerator for state-of-the-art radiation treatment. While infusion services for chemotherapy are offered at many hospitals, the advanced technology and expertise needed for radiation services makes it difficult to find in many rural facilities.

“Radiation treatments are daily treatments over the course of nearly two months, which makes having radiation oncology close to home so important” said Dr. Bowles. “When we’re talking about intense treatment schedules, not having to drive further down the valley makes all the difference in the world for our patients.”

The new Intermountain Cancer Center is one of several expansions Intermountain Park City Hospital has undergone since first opening in 2009. Since then, the rise of people living, working, and visiting the Wasatch Back has required the hospital to add more services to meet the demand for healthcare services.

U.S. News & World Report has named 26 Intermountain Health hospitals to its 2026 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care for mom and baby outcomes, education, and patient satisfaction.

The 26 Intermountain hospitals earned a high performing designation in maternity care for uncomplicated pregnancies in areas such as cesarean sections in lower-risk pregnancies, vaginal births after cesarean-section (VBAC) rates, newborn severe complications rates, birthing friendly and education practices, and outcome disparities based on race/ethnicity, among other measures.

U.S. News also recognizes Maternity Care Access Hospitals, which provide maternity services to communities that might otherwise have inadequate access to maternity care, sometimes referred to as "maternity care deserts." The report identified 147 critical access hospitals in total, with nine Intermountain hospitals making the list (noted "*" above).

Intermountain  Health is determined to provide the highest quality care to pregnant and postpartum patients and their babies, by improving outcomes and access to care within its six-state region. For example, Intermountain recently announced an innovative care program for pregnant and postpartum women with hypertension, and published a study identifying hypertension risks during pregnancy.

Intermountain Health has once again earned recognition as one of the nation’s safest health systems for patients, according to  the Leapfrog Group, a national healthcare safety and quality measurement organization that recently  unveiled its 2025 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades. 

This national recognition highlights Intermountain Health’s commitment to the safety of its patients and caregivers by prioritizing processes to prevent patient harm and medical errors.  

Of the 20 Intermountain hospitals evaluated by Leapfrog, 14 received an “A” while six Intermountain hospitals earned a “B” rating, underscoring Intermountain’s consistent safety performance across all communities and a commitment to continuous improvement. 

The Leapfrog survey considered anything that could bring possible harm to patients, such as infections, medical errors, accidents, or injuries. The Leapfrog survey also examines processes and tools that hospitals have in place to prevent harm in the first place. 

It then assigns an “A” through “F” grade, based on the hospital’s performance.

The survey methodology has been peer reviewed and published in the Journal of Patient Safety. Intermountain Health caregivers are continually training for all aspects of patient safety in healthcare. 

There are also protocols in place that encourage caregivers to speak up and raise concerns if they see something which could put someone at risk, noted Dr. Camilio.

Dieciséis hospitales de Intermountain Health han recibido premios de liderazgo en calidad 2025 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, de Vizient por demostrar excelencia en la atención clínica y al paciente de alta calidad.

Tres hospitales, Intermountain Health Fillmore Community, Intermountain Park City e Intermountain St. George Regional, obtuvieron el primer puesto a nivel nacional dentro de su categoría.

Vizient, una destacada empresa de mejoras en el desempeño en la atención médica, clasificó a los hospitales de Intermountain como los de mejor desempeño en la atención médica en su Estudio anual de calidad y responsabilidad, en el que se analiza la información de 1220 hospitales de todo el país. Intermountain Park City Hospital broke ground on Thursday for a major addition to its facilities that includes a state-of-the-art cancer center, along with expansion of the emergency department and surgical services.

These additions will help ensure the hospital can continue to meet the needs of a growing population, along with the millions of tourists who visit every year.

“We're embarking on a groundbreaking era at Intermountain Park City Hospital that will generationally redefine cancer care along the Wasatch Back,” said Lori Weston, president of Intermountain Park City Hospital. “Research has shown people have better outcomes when they can receive care closer to home and this expansion will help us meet that goal.”

The new Intermountain Health cancer center will span 10,800 square feet and bring vital services like medical oncology, a state-of-the-art linear accelerator for radiation treatment, and 18 infusion bays.

Previously, patients had to travel to outside the Wasatch Back to receive those services, and now it’s close to home.

The new cancer center will be able to treat 90 percent of the cancer cases along the Wasatch Back and serve up to 1,500 patients annually.

Because patients no longer must travel outside the Wasatch Back for this care, this will open up appointments for cancer patients along the Wasatch Front.

“Cancer care takes a physical and mental toll on patients and having to commute nearly 100 miles roundtrip to get care only adds to an already stressful situation,” said Tawyna Bowles, MD, an Intermountain Health oncology surgeon and senior medical director for oncology for Intermountain Health’s Canyon’s Region. “We hope this new cancer center will help ease the burden on patients and families.”

Other hospital upgrades will include an emergency department expansion of nearly 9,000 square feet and will include four new trauma bays and an imaging suite with state-of-the-art equipment.

Considering the significant amount of outdoor recreation from both residents and tourists, having an emergency department that can handle additional patients is vital.

The other parts of the upgrade include the addition of new operating rooms and another two surgical rooms dedicated for gastrointestinal procedures.

Como parte del Mes de concientización sobre la salud mental en mayo, el Park City Hospital de Intermountain Health conducirá un evento de concientización sobre la salud mental el martes, 20 de mayo de 6 a 7 p. m., en el Blair Education Center del hospital.

As part of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, Intermountain Health Park City Hospital is hosting a free mental health awareness event on Tuesday, May 20 from 6-7 pm in the Blair Education Center at the hospital.

The focus for the event is Neurodivergence: Challenging Perceptions, Shaping Understanding.

Two local clinics – Intermountain Health’s Psychiatry and Counseling Clinic in Park City and Solstice Counseling and Wellness in Heber City – are coming together to build better understanding and reduce the stigma of seeking behavioral health care in the community.

Topics will include autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and how these common conditions can interact in people, what treatment options are available, and some strategies for interacting with people who have these disorders or conditions.

Participants will include psychologist Shawn Miller, PhD, owner of Solstice Counseling and Wellness, Colton Miller, PhD, a psychologist with Intermountain Health’s Psychiatry and Counseling Clinic, and three PhD candidates who are interns in psychology: Lanie Belland and Kyndal Edwards from Intermountain Health and Ryan O’Keefe from Solstice.

After the three short presentations on those topics there will be a question and answer opportunity with the providers.

Intermountain Park City Hospital is celebrating the opening of the new sports medicine and performance center. The remodeled center has new state-of-the-art equipment including 3D motion capture, high speed treadmills, and a neuro rehabilitation ceiling track.

The wide range of programs now being offered are meant to help everyone with their movement and fitness – from Olympic athletes trying to gain an advantage to everyday athletes and people recovering from serious injuries.

“By having all of these services under one roof we can ensure that if someone is looking to improve their health and movement then we have someone who can help them achieve their goals,” said Marlene Morgan, a physical therapist and manager of sports medicine and performance at Intermountain Park City Hospital. “We have very active people in our community, and this helps ensure they can keep doing what they love.

In addition to physical therapy, sports performance and sports medicine, the new center also offers comprehensive lifestyle medicine and wellness services to better meet the needs of the community.

This includes services such as Integrative Medicine that combines conventional and alternative treatment plans, and Concierge Health, which offers access to expanded and specialized primary care services that focus on individualized health and wellness.

Cuatro hospitales de Intermountain Health han sido nombrados entre los 100 mejores hospitales rurales y comunitarios del 2025 según un nuevo estudio nacional de The Chartis Center for Rural Health.

Four Intermountain Health Hospitals have been named Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals for 2025, according to a new national study by The Chartis Center for Rural Health.

Intermountain Cedar City Hospital, Intermountain Park City Hospital, Intermountain Bear River Valley Hospital, and Intermountain Sevier Valley Hospital all made this year’s list.

“Across the country so many rural communities are underserved for healthcare, so having four Intermountain Health hospitals on this national list demonstrates that our efforts to improve health in all communities that we serve is working,” said Lori Weston, president of Intermountain Park City Hospital.

Thanks to telehealth and other innovations, Intermountain continues to bring expert care to rural communities. Several specialty health services are now available at these rural facilities, so patients don’t have to travel long distances to get the care they need.

Telehealth services and virtual care has been especially helpful when treating cancer patients who can have virtual appointments with experts far away. These innovations have also helped emergency room doctors respond faster in critical situations because they have access to experts who can guide treatment faster.

“The Top 100 award program elevates the very best performers and helps create a roadmap for those seeking to improve financial and operational performance while continuing to care for the communities they serve,” said Michael Topchik, executive director of The Chartis Center for Rural Health. “This is our 10th year honoring the Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals, and we’re thrilled to be able to celebrate these milestones with this year’s winners.”

The annual study is meant to highlight rural and community hospitals that can serve as an example to other hospitals seeking to improve healthcare in the communities they serve. Chartis uses publicly available data, along with their own system and metrics, to measure the performance of hospitals.

Fortune magazine and PINC AI have ranked Intermountain Medical Center in Murray as the number one major teaching hospital in the nation for 2024.

In addition, nine other Intermountain hospitals in Utah were ranked among the nation’s best hospitals on this year’s top 100 hospitals list, according to PINC AI and Fortune.

“When 10 percent of all the hospitals on a prestigious list like Fortune are from Intermountain Health, it shows how the innovative, caring and compassionate work our caregivers do on a daily basis is helping fulfill our vision of being a model health system – a charge given when our system was formed in 1975,” said Rob Allen, president and CEO of Intermountain Health. “I’m proud of our caregivers for the work they do and the impact it has on our communities. Their work is an inspiration to me and to others.”

The Fortune rankings analyzed publicly available data from more than 2,600 hospitals across the nation to determine top performers in clinical outcomes, patient experience, operational efficiency, and financial health.

“Our caregivers are at the forefront of innovation in healthcare and Intermountain Medical Center being ranked the top teaching hospital in the country shows that our vision is working,” said Ralph Jean-Mary, CEO of Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.

The annual Fortune and PINC AI Top 100 list is broken down into multiple categories with 40 being for teaching hospitals, and the remaining 60 slots for community hospitals.

Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital was listed forth for teaching hospitals while Intermountain St. George Regional Hospital placed second in the category for Large Community Hospitals.

Intermountain Park City Hospital is hosting a three-part free speaker series to provide aspiring female athletes (ages 12-18) and their parents with the latest information and tools to help them thrive in all types of sports and athletics.

 All three events are free and feature female providers from Intermountain Park City Hospital’s sports performance center.

 “The speaker series aims to help young female athletes understand their unique anatomy and physiology, and how that applies so they can tailor their training, recovery and nutrition; increase their strength, optimize their sports performance, and prevent common injuries,” said Carrie Jaworski, MD, an Intermountain Health sports performance physician, who is leading the series.

 “By providing education early in a female athlete’s life, we can help set them up for long term success and continued love of sport and physical activity,” she added.

 The first speaker in the series starts on Tues. April 30 at 6 pm with Dr. Jaworski, who will speak about “Staying Balanced as a Young Female Athlete – Optimizing Performance While Avoiding Pitfalls.”

 The second class is Tues. May 14 at 6 pm and will feature sports dietitian Alexandra Krause, RD, CD, who will speak on “Using Food as Fuel, Considerations for the Young Female Athlete.”

 The final class, on Tues. June 11 at 6 pm, features Intermountain certified athletic trainer Robyn Hase, ATC, and Intermountain physical therapy manager, Marlene Hatch, PT, who will talk about “Keeping the Young Female Athlete in the Game: Strength and Conditioning Tips for Injury Prevention and Better Performance.

 All three classes will be held in the Blair Education Center at Intermountain Park City Hospital, 900 Round Valley Drive, in Park City.
