St. Vincent Healthcare Receives Support from SCL Health Sister Hospitals in Colorado
Billings, MT - The recent surge of positive COVID-19 cases in Yellowstone County and surrounding communities, combined with the higher patient volumes the hospital typically experiences during the summer months, has led to an increase in hospital admissions at St. Vincent Healthcare. Ensuring adequate staffing to care for their COVID-19 patients and their non-COVID-19 patients is a priority the hospital has been closely monitoring and responding to.
St. Vincent’s incident command and leadership team has been working closely with their partners throughout the SCL Health system since the pandemic began. From sharing best practices and learning from the SCL Health Colorado hospitals, which experienced a high volume of COVID-19 patients earlier in the pandemic, to addressing supply and staffing needs, the support available to each hospital during these challenging times is what sets SCL Health apart.
When the SCL Health incident command and leadership team in Colorado were made aware of staffing concerns in Montana, they immediately took action, organizing a team of volunteer nurses, technicians and respiratory therapists from SCL Health hospitals in Colorado to travel Billings to support St. Vincent’s COVID-19 patients and associates.
“We all got into this profession for a reason and that’s to help people,” said Jared Stricker, an Emergency Technician with SCL Health Lutheran Medical Center, located near Denver. “And when your teammates need your help it instills that calling in you a little bit more. It’s a great feeling to come up here and assist during their time of need.”
More than 20 nurses, certified nursing assistants, respiratory therapists and technicians from SCL Health Colorado hospitals will call Billings “home” for the next few weeks as they provide support to St. Vincent Healthcare.
“This is a tremendous example of the power of being part of a larger health system,” said Steve Loveless, President of St. Vincent Healthcare and SCL Health Montana Region. “SCL Health is blessed with a talented, compassionate and dedicated team, all working together to support high quality, safe care and service during this pandemic. We are grateful to our Montana associates who are serving on the front lines and behind the scenes to care for our patients and we are grateful for our Colorado clinicians who are stepping up to support us and serve our patients. All of our brave healthcare heroes are to be commended for their ongoing service and sacrifice throughout the pandemic.”
