St. James Healthcare Recognized as a Pediatric Prepared Facility

Butte, MT - St. James Healthcare has received a formal designation as a Pediatric Prepared Facility from the Montana Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC). Multiple departments at St. James have worked to build a strong pediatric component and they work together to serve the children and families of Southwest Montana.

"This designation emphasizes St James’ dedication to care for not only the adults in our community but also the children," said Emergency Department Director Annie Sutton, RN. "The criteria for this designation requires multiple departments in the hospital to work together. This really speaks to the excellence and teamwork of our teams."

The Montana Pediatric Facility Recognition program is voluntary and was created to recognize hospitals that have demonstrated their ability to provide advanced pediatric care for the majority of pediatric medical emergencies including illness and injury. St. James’ designation lasts for a three-year period and will be up for renewal in September of 2022.

St. James is able to provide this level of pediatric care because the Emergency Department, ICU, Labor & Delivery Unit, Pharmacy Department, and the Surgical & Pediatric Unit have all shown the ability to work in concert, ensuring pediatric patients have access to the best care possible.

The Montana Pediatric Facility Recognition Criteria follows the Guidelines for Care of Children in the Emergency Department endorsed by the Montana Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), and the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA).
