Nightingale Recognition Event

Nightingale Bronzes

Congratulations to Michelle Deuto, Recovery Nurse Advocate, West Pines, who was named a Nightingale Luminary and one of 24 finalists for the statewide Nightingale Award at the Denver Metro Regional Recognition Event, held on May 21.

Deuto was honored for building an innovative program to screen and work with pregnant and new moms with substance use disorder. The program supports home visits, referral to substance use disorder treatment, prenatal care, referrals to therapy, childbirth education, and postpartum support for moms and babies.

Since 2016, the program has had over 250 referrals, with 43 percent of participants completing the program up to one year postpartum.

“Michelle Deruto is a phenomenal nurse who has developed a unique and desperately needed program to address the needs of pregnant and peripartum women struggling with addiction,” according to one of her nomination letters. “The program… provides intensive one one one support for women who often have nowhere else to turn. … (Michelle’s) unfailing compassion is a remarkable gift as is the program she has developed. Our community is lucky to have her.”

A statewide gala will be held in August, during which 12 statewide Nightingales will be named, chosen from the Luminaries from each region.

The recognition event was held to honor all Nightingale nominees, including 28 from Lutheran and five from other metro-area Legacy SCL Health care sites.
