Lutheran Joins the Kaiser Permanente Hospital Network
Wheat Ridge, CO - Kaiser Permanente and SCL Health Lutheran Medical Center today announced a new agreement to provide Kaiser Permanente members access to the hospital’s specialty and emergency care services, including the state’s first senior emergency room which provides specialized care to people over the age of 65.
As part of the new agreement, which starts July 15, 2020, Kaiser Permanente members can receive care at Lutheran for obstetrics and gynecology services, inpatient elective general surgery and orthopedics, as well as emergency room care and continued services if admission is required, including stroke and related services. Additional services will become available to Kaiser Permanente members as the relationship grows.
“We’ve collaborated with SCL Health since we first opened our doors in this state 50 years ago. We’re proud to build upon our long-standing relationship with this well-known, highly respected hospital system that shares our core values,” said Mike Ramseier, president of Kaiser Permanente in Colorado.
Lutheran is a community-based, acute-care hospital in Wheat Ridge near the I-70 corridor. The hospital has been named as one of the best hospitals in the country by Healthgrades and consistently earns top grades for safety by independent hospital ratings organizations. The relationship between SCL Health and Kaiser Permanente has grown over the last half-century to include Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, Saint Joseph Hospital in downtown Denver, and Saint Joseph Emergency Department services in Aurora, Littleton, and Northglenn.
“Kaiser Permanente members have been requesting access to Lutheran for many years, and we are eager to provide even better access to quality care and services to their members living in the west metro area and foothills,” said Grant Wicklund, President at Lutheran.
Under the new agreement, treatments, procedures, tests and prescriptions provided at Lutheran will be integrated into Kaiser Permanente members’ electronic health record. This helps Kaiser Permanente physicians, pharmacists, and specialists make better care decisions. For example, a pharmacist looking for a patient’s medication allergies in the EHR database would be able to remind that same patient that it’s time to schedule a cancer screening.
“This new opportunity with Lutheran is another example of our commitment to bringing the highest quality of care to our members in more convenient ways. We’re excited that we can offer Lutheran Medical Center as another choice for our members, especially those living in the west metro area of town,” said Margaret Ferguson, MD, president and executive medical director for the Colorado Permanente Medical Group which provides care for the members of Kaiser Permanente in Colorado.
In addition to in-person visits whether at Lutheran, another contracted hospital, or any of the 29 Kaiser Permanente medical offices across the state, Kaiser Permanente members can schedule appointments, refill prescriptions and email their physicians and care teams using convenient online tools. This includes video visits, the 24/7 nurse advice line, or the Chat with a Doctor app that provides members secure digital access to a Kaiser Permanente physician, pharmacy specialist, or financial counselor.
