Introducing Dr. Laura Anderson
Laura Anderson, MD is now providing sports medicine services one day per week at the Syracuse Clinic. Dr. Anderson specializes in joint and musculoskeletal injuries and pain in both athletes and non-athletes. She enjoys bicycling, sailing, skiing, badminton, triathlons, and hiking.
Dr. Anderson received her medical degree from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. Of particular interest is the service she rendered as a General Medical Officer with the U.S. Navy. After undergoing extensive training, Dr. Anderson made two deployments to Iraq in 2003 and 2004. She provided field medical support to soldiers involved in intense fighting, particularly by giving immunizations and stabilizing combat injuries. She also conducted medical evaluations to determine the deployability status and post-deployment mental health of soldiers. She demonstrated strong leadership skills while conducting bi-weekly attack-readiness drills and training soldiers on the medical aspects of chemical and biological warfare.
Dr. Anderson has worked as a part-time clinician at several urgent care facilities. She served as a co-medical director and preceptor with Clinica Tepati in Sacramento, CA, for which she received the 2007 Preceptor of the Year award. Additionally, she served as the Family Medicine Housestaff President at UC Davis Medical Center. Dr. Anderson recently completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Hahnemann University Hospital in conjunction with the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA.
During most of the work week, Dr. Anderson practices sports medicine at the Layton Clinic.
