Intermountain Health St. Mary’s Regional Hospital Earns Magnet Recognition with Distinction for Excellence in Nursing
Intermountain Health St. Mary’s Regional Hospital has achieved hospital Magnet redesignation with Distinction for nursing excellence and recognition of outstanding safety and innovative care for patients from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
St. Mary’s Regional Hospital first received Magnet Hospital designation in 2022.
Magnet with Distinction recognizes hospitals that go above and beyond the already rigorous standards of the Magnet Recognition Program. The distinction is reserved for hospitals that achieve the highest levels of nursing excellence and quality patient care. The hospital was recognized for exemplary performance exceeding national benchmarks in 12 specific areas as part of its evaluation including patient safety, patient centered care, care coordination, and creating a safe work environment.
St. Mary’s Chief Nursing Officer Cori Holloway said the achievement reflects years of dedication, innovation, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care to the people of Western Colorado.
“Magnet recognition signifies a culture focused on quality, safety, evidence-based practice, and continuously improving care for our patients and families," Holloway said. "When nurses are empowered to practice at the highest level, patients and the entire community benefit.”
Magnet facilities are recognized for creating an exceptional environment for patient care, forward-thinking leadership and systems that empower staff at all levels to have a voice and grow professionally. These organizations actively seek to improve care using research, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Holloway emphasized that the achievement is especially meaningful in the reality of healthcare today.
“Nursing is incredibly demanding. Patients are more complex, healthcare continues to evolve, and caregivers face challenges every day that most people never see,” she said. “Yet our nurses and caregivers continue to show up with skill, compassion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to those who depend on us.”
With this recognition, the nursing teams were specifically recognized for surpassing performance benchmarks in patient satisfaction, quality of care, and nursing job satisfaction.
“This recognition belongs to our caregivers. It reflects thousands of moments of compassion, critical thinking, advocacy, and teamwork that happen every day across our organization,” Holloway said. “It belongs to the nurses, physicians, clinical teams, support staff, and leaders who are united by a common purpose: caring for our community and helping people live the healthiest lives possible.”
St. Mary’s Regional Hospital is the only Magnet-designated hospital in Western Colorado and the second hospital in Colorado to earn Magnet with Distinction. With this designation, St. Mary’s is among the leaders in nursing care in the country and globally.
