Intermountain Health Rheumatology Clinics Open to Serve Denver and Northglenn Areas

Intermountain Health Saint Joseph Hospital has opened comprehensive rheumatology clinics to care for patients with arthritis and other autoimmune or inflammatory diseases.

Rheumatology is the medical specialty that diagnoses and cares for patients who have rheumatic diseases including autoimmune, chronic inflammatory or degenerative conditions. These impact the connective tissues and musculoskeletal system and include arthritis, Sjogren’s syndrome, scleroderma and osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.

Specialists can offer infusions, injections, and procedures including ultrasound-guided small injections. They also will manage patients with osteoporosis in partnership with radiology for bone density screenings.

Saint Joseph Hospital Rheumatology – Denver opened Oct. 5 at 1830 Franklin St., Suite 300, in Denver near the campus of Saint Joseph Hospital. Nicole Swavely, MD, and Carson Maynard, DO, see patients at the Denver clinic.

Dr. Swavely is a dual board-certified rheumatologist with clinical interests in autoimmune and inflammatory rheumatic diseases, osteoporosis and bone health, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and joint and soft tissue injections including ultrasound-guided procedures.

Dr. Maynard also is a dual board-certified rheumatologist and cares for patients with inflammatory arthritis including rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. Her clinical interests also include treating gout and osteoporosis.

Intermountain Health rheumatologists began seeing patients Oct. 19 at Saint Joseph Hospital Rheumatology – Northglenn, at 11900 Grant St., Suite 220, in Northglenn. Sonia Khatter, MD, leads the Northglenn clinic.

Dr. Khatter is a dual board-certified rheumatologist who delivers care to individuals with rheumatic and autoimmune conditions. She has extensive experience in diagnosing and managing a range of disorders including inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue diseases, and metabolic bone conditions. Her clinical interests include the intersection between women's health and rheumatologic conditions, as well as metabolic bone disease.

Patients should speak with their primary care provider for a referral for rheumatology services or call 303-318-2110 to reach either location.
