Intermountain Health Heber Valley & Park City Hospitals Seeking Volunteers to Help Deliver Baby Blankets for America’s 250 Celebration
In honor of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, Intermountain Health Heber Valley Hospital and Intermountain Health Park City Hospital are launching a community volunteer initiative to provide every baby born in 2026 with a handmade, patriotic-themed blanket.
Nearly 700 babies are born annually at the two Intermountain Health hospitals.
As part of the initiative, the community is invited to sew blankets or donate materials in red, white, blue, off‑white, or soft grey to create meaningful keepsakes that mark both a national milestone and a life-changing moment for families in the Wasatch Back.
“Quilting and community service has always brought me great joy,” said Sharon Johnson, a phamarcy technician at Intermountain Heber Valley Hospital and a member of the Heber Valley Quilt Guild. “This project is a great way to bring joy to our newborn parents and celebrate the birth of their new bundle of joy. Additionally, this is a unique opportunity to celebreate the birth of our Nation. We have a wonderful group of caregivers and quilters in our community that has stepped up to help bring this dream to reality.”
The Heber Valley Quilt Guild has already donated nearly 240 quilts to the labor and deliver units at both hospitals since January.
“This is a unique opportunity to bring our community together in celebration of both history and new beginnings,” said Lori Weston, president of Intermountain Park City Hospital. “Each handmade blanket is a warm welcome to the newest members of the Wasatch Back and a symbol of the care and connection that define our communities.”
“Our hospitals have always been strengthened by the kindness of our communities,” said Si Hutt, president of Intermountain Heber Valley Hospital. “This effort embodies that spirit. As we celebrate a milestone in our nation's history, we also celebrate new life – and the people who make the Wasatch Back such a special place to call home.”
