Residents of East Millard are invited to join Intermountain Fillmore Community Hospital in its annual summer food drive – Feeding Our Community Together – which is aimed at supporting local families and children during the summer months.

In partnership with Fillmore Elementary School, the initiative ensures that school-aged children have access to nutritious snacks and food daily and on weekends.

The effort is part of Intermountain Health’s ongoing mission to improve community health and wellness.

For every 75 pounds of food donated to the East Millard Food Pantry, Intermountain Fillmore Community Hospital and school will provide a case of healthy, low-sugar snacks to students in need.

The hospital has gathered over 350 pounds of food so far, but the goal is to collect over 900 pounds.

The drive will continue through August 31, 2025, and community members are encouraged to participate and donate.

Donation bags are available at Intermountain Fillmore Community Hospital and at local grocery stores for anyone to fill and return to the hospital lobby. However, organizers emphasize that no bag is necessary – any canned or non-perishable food items are welcome.

“We’re hoping that between now and the end of August, people will just stop by and drop off some canned goods,” said Opal Cluff, culinary services manager at Intermountain Fillmore Community Hospital. “This is our second time teaming up with the school, and it’s been a great way to expand our impact.”

The idea to include the school came from Intermountain Fillmore Community Hospital nurse Shelby Bullock, RN, who highlighted the need for snacks during summer school and the transition back to the regular school year.

“She reminded us that kids need support all year long,” Cluff said. “Combining efforts with the school just made sense – it’s a simple way to help two parts of our community at once.”

Most-needed items include:

• Non-perishable food items

• Canned fruits and vegetables

• Peanut butter and jelly

• Pasta and rice

• Shelf-stable milk and juice boxes

• Baby formula

Together, Intermountain Fillmore Community Hospital and Fillmore Elementary are making a difference – one can of food at a time.
