Miles City, MT - Holy Rosary Healthcare has a brand new, upgraded pharmacy designed to protect and promote the safety of patients, associates and the environment. The pharmacy meets new mandatory standards in regards to facility design of pharmacies preparing certain medications.

“We made a big commitment to cancer patients in eastern Montana with the recent pharmacy upgrade to comply with USP 800 requirements. Holy Rosary is now the only facility in Miles City that can both safely prepare and administer state-of-the-art cancer treatments right at home,” said Dr. Patrick Cobb, Holy Rosary Healthcare Oncology Medical Director. “Cancer treatment is stressful enough without the added burden of a long car ride. We are really pleased that Holy Rosary is able to provide treatment to our patients in a convenient and safe environment.”

A trained pharmacist prepares these specialty intravenous medications in a cleanroom, where the environment is very similar to an operating room. Medications are prepared in a negative pressure cleanroom which protects the pharmacy staff from exposure to the medications and helps to ensure that the medications are bacteria- and pathogen-free.

“Our Pharmacy provides medications to all inpatient areas, outpatient areas, the oncology/infusion center and the Residential Living Unit“ said Raylene Starck, Holy Rosary Pharmacy Director. “The Pharmacy required remodeling and upgraded equipment in order to continue providing intravenous medications to patients being treated for many conditions- cancer, autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and psoriasis; gastrointestinal diseases such as Crohn’s disease and colitis; and neurologic diseases like multiple sclerosis. We are thrilled that our new facility allows us to continue providing for our patients’ needs.”
