Caregivers at the Breast Center at Good Samaritan Medical Center want to put out the fire for cancer early with S’more screening mammograms. Camp Out for Breast Cancer Awareness on Wednesday, October 18 will have convenient, early evening appointments open for screening mammograms and offer helpful information and snacks.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Breast Center team has planned this special event from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Breast Center at Good Samaritan, 200 Exempla Circle in Lafayette. There are a limited number of appointments which can be made by calling 303-689-4180.

The education will focus on nutrition and stress reduction techniques.

“Life gets busy, and people are focused on what happens right now,” said Shari Oakland Schulze, director of oncology. “They can forget to schedule needed medical appointments including a mammogram.”

“We want women to be healthy so they can be there for the people they care about and those who rely on them,” she said.

In the United States, one in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Survival rates have increased dramatically in recent decades thanks to increases in annual screenings.
