From Building Homes to Building Hope: Larry and Heidi Canarelli Commit $50 Million to Intermountain Health Nevada Children’s Hospital
Transformational commitment to Intermountain Health accelerates the Nevada Campaign for Kids and brings Nevada’s first comprehensive children’s hospital closer to reality.
LAS VEGAS, Oct. 6, 2026 — Intermountain Healthcare Foundation today announced a remarkable $50 million commitment from Larry and Heidi Canarelli to help bring Nevada's first comprehensive, stand-alone children's hospital closer to reality. This gift advances Intermountain Health's Nevada Campaign for Kids by expanding access to specialized pediatric care in the state.
To honor the family's generosity, Intermountain Health will name the inpatient tower the Larry & Heidi Canarelli Inpatient Tower. Set to open in 2030, the tower will be a transformational place of healing, where breakthrough technology, specialized pediatric expertise and extraordinary compassion come together for children and families. It will include 180 inpatient beds, with room to expand to 228. Planned services include a trauma center, an emergency department, the state's highest-level neonatal intensive care unit, pediatric intensive care, cancer center, behavioral health services, child abuse treatment center and advanced medical and surgical specialties.
“We’ve been fortunate to build in Nevada for a long time and watch generations of families put down roots here,” said Larry Canarelli and Heidi Canarelli. “Every child deserves access to great care close to home. We hope this helps keep more Nevada families together during some of life’s most difficult moments.”
For decades, the Canarelli family has helped shape Southern Nevada through leadership in homebuilding, education, and community development. Their commitment now extends that legacy by investing in the health of children and families, creating new opportunities for future generations to grow up healthier and stronger in the community they call home.
“The Canarelli family’s extraordinary commitment is helping create something Nevada has never had before: a comprehensive health system for children, built around the complex needs of kids and families,” said David Flood, Chief Development Officer, Intermountain Health, and President, Intermountain Foundation. “We are grateful for their willingness to place their name behind this remarkable endorsement. The Larry & Heidi Canarelli Inpatient Tower is turning generosity into lasting capacity for children’s health in Nevada.”
The Canarelli family’s gift, which is strongly encouraged and supported by their children—Stacia Lemke, Jeffrey Canarelli, and Alyssa Canarelli, reaches beyond the walls of the new tower. It will help Intermountain Children’s Health advance its vision to build the nation’s model health system for children by expanding access to specialized care, recruiting leading pediatric expertise and strengthening services for children across Nevada, including pediatric behavioral health.
For families in Nevada, the change will be measured in miles not traveled. "Soon, a child in Las Vegas, who needs the highest level of intensive care, will be able to get it here," said Mitch Cloward, Intermountain Health Region President. "This kind of access changes what is possible for families when every hour, every step and every mile matters."
Later this month, Intermountain Health is expected to break ground for the hospital at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Harry Reid Research and Technology Park, in southwest Las Vegas.
"When we launched this campaign, we asked our community to imagine what would be possible if every Nevada child could receive comprehensive, top-quality care at home," said Bill Hornbuckle, CEO of MGM Resorts International and Wendy Hornbuckle, Co-Chairs of the Nevada Campaign for Kids. "Larry and Heidi just answered that question by adding tremendous fuel to what will be one of the most inclusive and galvanizing campaigns Nevada has seen. Now we’re asking others in this state to answer it, too."
