Intermountain Downwinders Clinic Holding Free Public Meetings in Utah to Discuss Recent Reauthorization and Expansion of Program

Cancer Center Photo

The RESEP (Radiation Exposure Screening and Education Program) clinic from St. George Regional Hospital will be holding public informational meetings in several Utah cities on March 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st and 24th. These meetings are to inform the public about the reinstatement and expansion of the RECA program, what areas now qualify and to give applications.

This is a free service. Come receive information regarding what new areas now qualify to apply for the RECA compensation as well as the new increased compensation amount. If you have called asking for an application to be sent and they have not been able to call you back, applications will be available. The online portal will also be discussed. If you are ready to submit your application and would like it reviewed, they will be doing application reviews one hour before and one hour after the Provo, Ogden, Price and St. George meetings. Unfortunately, if you have already been compensated by the RECA program, the law does not allow you to apply for any additional money.

The term “Downwinder” is used to describe people who were exposed to radioactive fallout in Arizona, Nevada and Utah, Idaho and New Mexico during the nuclear testing at the Nevada Test Site.  Local residents, and their families, are encouraged to come have their questions answered about the program.
