Diabetes Prevention Program Earns CDC Full Plus Recognition

The “Healthy Lifestyles” program at St. James Healthcare, now part of Intermountain Health, has earned CDC Full Plus Recognition.  The Full Plus Recognition designation is reserved for Diabetes Prevention Programs that have effectively delivered a quality, evidence-based program that meets all of the standards for CDC recognition and will last for the next five years.

We’re thrilled and honored to have earned the Full Plus recognition by the CDC. It is important we all work to address diabetes and cardiovascular disease in our community and this program does a great job of addressing both.

The “Healthy Lifestyles” Diabetes Prevention Program is administered by Ida and Holly McCamant, ACSM-CPT. They assist the program participants to make improvements in their eating habits while also helping them develop a pattern of regular physical activity. The program consists of a 16-week series of nutrition and physical activity classes followed by six months of follow-up classes.

The program initially started in 2008 and has been working for a number of years to bring the best quality program to serve Southwest Montana.

“The sustained success of the lifestyle change program makes an invaluable contribution to the prevention of type 2 diabetes, both in the community and nationally,” said Miriam T. Bell, Team Lead, National Diabetes Prevention Program at the CDC. “It is immensely gratifying to see the science of diabetes prevention being implemented to improve the public’s health.”

The next session of the “Healthy Lifestyles” program starts on February 13, 2023. For registration information on the classes please call 406-723-2960 or visit https://www.sclhealth.org/classes-events/stjames/healthy-lifestyles/.
