Billings Senior Donates Isolette Covers to St. Vincent NICU

Billings, MT - The St. Vincent Healthcare Neonatal Intensive Care Unit gratefully received six handmade isolette covers from a Billings high school student. Carly DeBar, a senior at Billings Senior High School, donated the isolette covers to our NICU as part of the community service component of her ”Platinum” project. Students involved in the Platinum Program are required to enroll in all AP and honors courses throughout their four years in high school as well as completion of a large capstone project. The individual project is designed entirely by each Platinum student to further his or her knowledge on a topic of choice. In Carly’s case, she dedicated her project to learning about the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Through Carly’s time researching NICU care, she learned more about isolettes, the ideal size for coverings, and the need to block out light. "I'm really happy I was able to do this," said Carly. "Knowing that these will impact the lives of little babies is really special." Carly happily chose to benefit an area of the medical field because she is going into pre-med upon graduation from high school in hopes of becoming a doctor.

With the help of Carly’s donation, the St. Vincent NICU team is able to continue to provide the best care to our smallest patients -- while offering a special gift the families can take home.

“These will be placed on the isolettes of our tiniest babies, so they’ll be used a ton while they’re here,” explained Tina Stinson, St. Vincent NICU Manager. “Then they get to take the isolette cover home upon discharge. At home it becomes more of a blanket and serves as a nice memento from their NICU stay.”
